Oostende voor Anker
Location: Ostend
Date: 25th to 28th May 2012
Ostend at Anchor is the largest annual festival for authentic shipping and the North Sea. In the space of ten years this maritime event, which attracts about 300,000 visitors, has become the most important fixture on the Belgian coast's spring calendar. The Visserskaai is a hive of sociability, the Sint-Petrus-en Sint-Paulusplein becomes one big jumble sale of boat-related items, while on the Stationsplein there are demonstrations of old maritime trades and scores of bands performing throughout the city. And of course the "cathedrals of the sea" - the stunningly beautiful three-masters - will be in attendance along with many small classic boats and VIC 96.
